County-wide call for help issued after officers hear gunfire, male running in Montgomery Co.

NEW LEBANON, Montgomery County — A suspect was taken into custody after a county-wide call for help was issued late Monday night, a spokesperson for the New Lebanon Police Department confirmed.

The “Signal 99″ was issued around 11:40 p.m. in the area of W Main Street and Gloria Avenue in New Lebanon, according to a Montgomery County dispatch supervisor.

The spokesperson said officers initially responded to reports of shots fired in the area.

Upon arrival, witnesses told police that a person who was possibly intoxicated had a gun.

While investigating, officers heard at least one gunshot and saw a male running in the area, according to the spokesperson.

The male matched the description officers received.

Officers found the suspect and took him into custody after a brief search, the spokesperson said.

Emergency scanner traffic indicates that the “Signal 99″ was canceled within 10 minutes.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

This incident remains under investigation.
