Michaela Carpenter’s body was discovered by a relative who said they had not heard from her for a couple of days on Monday afternoon. She was found in a home in the 100 block of East Hudson Avenue.
Police previously said they were investigating Carpenter’s death as a homicide. Now, they’ve said they believe she was shot and killed inside the home.
Carpenter’s 2-year-old daughter was also found inside the home.

Dayton Police Major Brian Johns told News Center 7 that this case is “one that weighs heavy on our hearts and minds.”
“This is a very important case for us,” Johns said, adding that Carpenter’s daughter is in good condition.
Johns said police are talking to everyone who lives on the same street and those who knew Carpenter in hopes of getting any information about who her killer might be.
“So we are asking for the community’s help. If you happen to know anything about this case or saw anything,” Johns said.
Police believe people traveling along E. Hudson Avenue, N. Main Street, or Riverside Drive over the weekend might have noticed something unusual as they don’t think Carpenter let her killer into the home.
“It did appear that forced entry was made and she was shot inside the home,” Johns said.
As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, police confirmed that Carpenter had, at times, experienced problems that forced her to seek help from courts or law enforcement. When asked, Johns confirmed she did have protection orders filed against at least one person, but he would not elaborate more on that.
Police would also not specify if any of the protection orders she sought in the past were active at the time of her death.
Anyone with information on the case can call Dayton Police at (937) 333-COPS (2677) or contact Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at (937) 222-STOP (7867) or MiamiValleyCrimeStoppers.com.
