This type of altercation in this space is grounds for a level three. Level three is the most serious offense we have,” Dayton Public Schools (DPS) Superintendent David Lawrence said.

Video obtained by News Center 7 shows several people in a hallway when two people began fighting.

Some of the fights moved to the parking lot, where several adults became involved, according to a statement from Dayton Public Schools.

The fights prompted a call for assistance from agencies across Montgomery County.

The district said four DPS students, two charter school students, and two adults were detained.

Around six to eight students total, both DPS and non-DPS, were involved in the fights.

Lawrence said there were about 10 school resource officers and at least 400 people at the game.

One officer was pepper sprayed while on the scene, and another officer had minor injuries, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

School district administrators are now looking at options to stop situations like this.

“In an effort to prevent future altercations at events, the district is exploring several options, such as limiting athletic events admissions to DPS students only,” Lawrence said.

It is unclear why or how the fight started, but one man who lives near the school said he believes school rivalries could have been a factor.

“It don’t take much of anything to get stuff started,” Gary said.

Gary was not home when the fight broke out, but he said this isn’t the first time violent incidents have happened at the school.

We will continue to update this story.
