The drivers increased their speeds as the officer tried to catch up.
Eventually, one of the drivers lost control and crashed near the intersection of Austin Boulevard and State Route 741.
Springboro police believe this car was stolen.
The occupant of the car, identified as Ja’Vien Robinson, got out and ran away on foot.
The officer pulled alongside the car and then spotted Robinson.
“Hey! I’m going to hit you!” the officer is heard saying on the body camera.
The officer was able to catch up to Robinson and take him into custody.
“Do you have a gun behind your back?” the officer asked.
“No, sir,” the suspect replied.
“Get on the (expletive) ground!” the officer said.
News Center 7 obtained body camera video of the officer involved.
“You’re going to kill yourself! Seriously? Are you gonna (expletive) kill yourselves and everybody else?” the officer said.
Robinson was put in the back of a police cruiser, and the officer spotted what he thought was a shoe.
He picked up an item that may have been part of a crime.
“There’s your mask,” the officer said.
He then turned around and walked back to where Robinson crashed.
Other officers learned that the second vehicle involved in the chase got away.
Robinson crashed into an innocent driver, causing serious damage to both cars.
“There may not be anybody else with this car. It looks like the other car probably got away,” the officer said.
Robinson has been booked into jail on suspicion of a half dozen charges, including:
- Failure to Comply with the Lawful Order of a Police Officer
- Obstructing Official Business
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Breaking and Entering
- Possession of Criminal Tools
- Receiving Stolen Property
