Pernell was traveling north on I-75 in the southbound lane when she collided with a Ford transit van, according to a Dayton police crash report.

After the crash, Pernell collided with the median wall while the transit van overturned.

The driver and passenger in the transit van had minor injuries, according to the crash report.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, Dayton Police confirmed on Monday that Pernell was involved in a hit-and-run crash moments earlier.

That crash sparked a 911 call from a driver who saw the hit-and-run and briefly followed her toward I-75.

“They are just going the wrong way onto 75,” the 911 caller said before telling dispatchers they were not following them onto the interstate.

The vehicle was spotted by a driver who shared his dash camera video with News Center 7. In it, Pernell’s car can be seen going north in the left lane of southbound I-75.

The video had a timestamp showing it was 3:50 a.m. on Saturday. Dayton Police said they received reports of the crash around 3:52 a.m.

News Center 7 spoke to a woman who had someone drive the wrong way at her on a downtown street. She said it’s every driver’s worst nightmare.

“I don’t understand that, it’s like, it almost makes you think, it’s like, ‘Are they doing that on purpose,’” Chassidy Esken said.

Police are investigating the crash and why Pernell went the wrong way.

As News Center 7 reported, this marked the third wrong-way crash in the 30 days on a Dayton-area freeway, resulting in four deaths.
