SIDNEY — The discovery of a potential explosive device led to an investigation in Sidney on Monday morning.

Initial reports indicated police were called to the area of N. W. Avenue and Pike Street around 10:30 a.m.
Sidney Fire told News Center 7 that the person who discovered the suspicious device in the home moved it to the front porch and then called the fire department.
“Not recommended that if you find something,” Deputy Chief Dallas Davis said. “Leave it where it’s at, call the authorities, make sure that we can identify what it is before you move it.”

Samantha Miller said she was originally told to evacuate, but then was ordered to shelter in place.
“(The fireman) came back and he said, ‘I think you could just like hang out in the back half of the house.’ That’s what I did,” Miller said.
As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, the Dayton Bomb Squad was called in to assist. Our crew saw them suit up in protective equipment to remove the item.
Around 1:17 p.m., police confirmed the device was safely removed by the Dayton Bomb Squad, and the streets were reopened.
