Some snow flurries fell across parts of the area on Sunday afternoon.

A pair of iWitness7 viewers sent video of snow flurries in Brookville and Lewisburg.

Another viewer sent a video of snow flurries falling in Urbana.

News Center 7’s Malik Patterson spoke with the City of Springfield’s street maintenance director about their plans.

Chris Moore said they had two trucks loaded and ready to go on Friday.

“We have about 3000 tons of salt in here right now,” he said. “And so, to put that into perspective, last winter, we used about 2700.”

Moore said that road temperatures were in the high 30s throughout Sunday. He does not think that there will be any trouble on the road.

He told Patterson that two people will be working overnight. He added that there will be a road crew for the morning commute.

Moore said it is important to drive slowly.

“It is amazing how much different they react than the rest of the pavement, especially this time of year,” he said. “You get to an elevated surface, and all of a sudden, that confidence was a little too much, and you start slipping and sliding.”

Patterson also talked to people on Sunday. They said they were not ready to get out the shovels.

“That early morning is terrible. Road crews are not out yet,” said Robert Dubie. “I’m wearing my ice patch just more than anything.”

ODOT crews told Patterson that drivers should be patient and slow down.

Since it’s the first snow of the season, it will be the first time these snowplows will be on the roads since early this year.
