Favors said the dogs belonged to a family member and were friendly before the attack.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:30, Favors said her son, Marquise, and her grandmother, Denise, were seriously injured in the attack.

“The dogs have been around the kids and my grandma before,” Favors said.

The dogs were in the backyard while the family member was at work and Marquise and Denise stayed inside.

“Maybe they were mad because they were back there in the cage or whatever,” she said.

Favors said her 9-year-old son went out in the backyard to grab his bike. At that time, both dogs somehow managed to escape and attack him.

“She came out to help him, and she got the dogs off him, but the dog got a hold of her,” Favors said.

The boy and his great-grandmother scrambled into the house, but the door didn’t close all the way, so the dogs managed to get inside and attack again.

“My grandma was basically telling him to save himself, so they basically were just trying to save each other during the whole ordeal,” Favors said.

Dayton police surrounded the home and called in the Animal Resource Center (ARC) employees.

News Center 7 crews watched as someone who appeared to be an ARC employee walked both dogs out to the van.

Favors said her son has stitches all over his hands and fingers.

Her grandmother lost a foot, and doctors installed a plate in her arm.

“I’m just so hurt for like... I’m surprised I’m not crying now, telling you what happened cause it’s just terrible,” Favors said.

News Center 7 reached out to ARC leaders for information about the dog’s current status.

We will continue to follow this story.
