“It was a very fast and very rapidly evolving scene,” Greene County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jonathan Emery said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, authorities believe the gunfire began in the parking lot of the SportsPleX building and spilled across Dayton Springfield Road into the Mercy Health parking lot.

This part of the road is the line between Clark and Greene counties.

“We do not have any suspects in custody. Also, we do not have any actual shooting victims at this time,” Emery said.

It is unclear exactly how many people were involved in the gunfire, but Emery suspects it was “quite a few.”

As the initial investigation continued near SportsPleX, another scene was located at a nearby UDF gas station.

Workers told News Center 7’s Malik Patterson that deputies spoke with them.

“I would refer Clark County to you for that. Clark County helped us with that, but there was additional work to be done at the UDF further down the road,” Emery said.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has been requested to handle the investigation.

“Just due to the size of the scene, just to help us process. They have resources, more resources than we do,” Emery said.

News Center 7 will continue to follow this story.
