Area man accused of stealing brass urns from cemetery arrested after SWAT standoff

RICHMOND — A man was arrested after an hours-long SWAT standoff in Richmond on Tuesday, according to a Wayne County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office was investigating after several stolen brass urns from a local cemetery.

Authorities found some of the stolen property inside a truck parked outside a house on South 11th Street in Richmond.

The spokesperson said deputies thought the suspect, Joshua Farmer, was inside the house.

Farmer had active felony theft warrants.

Deputies contacted another person inside, who said they didn’t know if Farmer was there or not.

Authorities issued several commands, but Farmer refused to come outside.

Richmond SWAT found Farmer hiding in the attic of the house several hours later, the spokesperson said.

Farmer was arrested and evaluated by emergency medical personnel.

Richmond police transported Farmer to Reid Health for further evaluation, but his current medical status is unknown.

Farmer will be transported to the Wayne County Jail after he is released.
