DAYTON — State officials are looking to create a new push that would require fuel to be tested before it goes into gas tanks.

As reported on News Center 7 at 6:00, Ohio is one of the three states that do not have quality testing for gas.

As previously reported by News Center 7, people said their cars stopped working after getting gas from two local gas stations.

“Ohio is late to the party, and this is something that we need to have signed into law,” State Senator Willis Blackshear (D-Dayton) said.
Blackshear recently introduced S.B. 80, which would protect customers from faulty fuel.
“The last thing people want to be focused on is costly car repairs. Ohioans have the right to know what they’re putting in their cars,” Blackshear said.
The introduction comes just a week after News Center 7 reported that a customer had major car troubles because water got in their fuel tank.
Sonya Moore was one of the people who got bad gas from Sunoco in West Carrollton.
“I had to call in. I had to tell my client that I couldn’t take her to the doctor today because of the car,” Moore said.
Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith sent testers to the gas station.
“At least in one of the underground storage tanks, there was more than ten inches of water in that tank,” Keith said.
Right now, the law only allows auditor’s offices to test for the quantity of gas.
Blackshear’s proposed bill would allow auditors to test for fuel quality.
“If someone was checking that on a regular basis, it might prevent someone from having costly repairs to their car,” Keith said.
