Welfare check leads to SWAT response in Washington Twp.; several intersections closed

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP — UPDATE @ 12:41 p.m.:

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has shut down Seton Hill Street at several intersections.

Seton Hill Street is closed at Whipp Road, Maryhurst Drive, and Meadowview Drive.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes. We will notify residents once the roadway has reopened,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a social media post.

UPDATE @ 11:09 a.m.:

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene of a standoff in a Washington Twp. neighborhood.

They were called out to a home on Brookway Road around 9:29 a.m., according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.

Crews on the scene have told News Center 7 that this started as a welfare check, but then someone barricaded themselves inside a home.

Our crew also reported seeing the Montgomery County Regional SWAT arrive on scene shortly before 11 a.m.

Deputies have Brookway Road blocked off while they’re on scene.
