As reported on News Center 7 at 11:00, busy roads like Old Troy Pike in Huber Heights have seen lots of changes over the last few years.

The city has completed a lane widening project in the area and has changed the lights.

Huber Heights police said every time major changes like that happen, they see more issues with drivers.

“If you’re patient, you’re good to go,” Leo Reaver said.

Reaver drives on Old Troy Pike every day.

“Sometimes it’s not so bad, from the hours 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., it can get congested. Like you were saying through here, but other than that, it’s really not that bad, honestly. As long as you’re paying attention,” Reaver said.

Being on alert is key, according to Huber Heights Police Sergeant Josh Fosnight.

“Troy and Brandt, you’re going to see a lot of speeders as a result. But we’re also getting a lot of them inside the neighborhoods,” Fosnight said.

The police department recently created a traffic services unit to show the community they are listening to their concerns.

“We’ve taken a couple guys from road patrol; we’ve put them into this unit as a permanent thing. The objective here is really just to kind of isolate the traffic issues and give those officers the ability to handle the traffic complaints, road patrol officers, and then just handle calls for service,” Fosnight said.

These officers will also handle crashes and other serious situations on the road.

People who notice an erratic driver, or someone speeding, in Huber Heights are encouraged to call the department’s non-emergency number at (937) 233-2080.
