Sidney Police said they were contacted by the FBI around 5 a.m. after the agency noticed a “credible threat” of school violence related to Sidney on TikTok.
The school district said the threat was not specific to any building, only to “Sidney City Schools.”

After learning of the threat, the district decided to close on Monday.
By 10 a.m. on Monday, police confirmed that a suspect, only described as a juvenile male, was taken into custody. Police later confirmed to News Center 7 that the suspect is a Sidney City Schools student, but officers were unable to confirm what grade he is in.
“A search of the residence did not locate any means by which the threat could be carried out,” police said in a release.
As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, on top of felony criminal charges pending, Sidney’s superintendent said the boy will also face discipline from the district.
“We will act appropriately when that time comes,” Sidney Schools Superintendent Greg Snyder told News Center 7.
Following the arrest, police confirmed the district’s campuses were safe. Staff were then allowed to enter buildings around noon on Monday.
Middle and high school after-school activities were also able to go on as planned.
Sidney City Schools will be back to class like normal on Tuesday.
Snyder said, out of an abundance of caution, police will do extra sweeps of district buildings on Monday and then before class starts on Tuesday.
