Names announced for the Eaglets of Carillon Park Eagles

DAYTON — The Eaglets at Carillon Park are growing up. The two hatched in April, and now their names have been announced.

Peace and Liberty are this year’s addition to the Carillon Park Eagle family. The birds are now as big as Mom and Dad, Willa and Scout.

Carillon Park Eagle expert, Jim Weller, said the birds will soon use their wings to leave the nest. He expects them to take their first flight within a week or so.

“So, 70 days ago, kids were only three inches long. Now, they’re 32 or 33 inches tall with a six- or seven-foot wingspan,” Weller said. He continued, “What it takes now is fully developed muscle, strength, and coordination, and courage to take a 100-step outside the nest.”

Peace and Liberty are the 17th and 18th Eaglets to be born at Carillon Park. The park chooses their names for them that have a Dayton or Wright Brothers connection.

Weller said that is what makes this year’s nest location so special. “Of all the places, they chose a tree directly above the 1905 Wright Flyer III, which is now the state airplane of Ohio,” Weller said.

He also said the names for this year’s Eaglets were inspired by last month’s NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
