Several neighbors said they think it’s important to keep an eye out for each other.

One person shared home security footage with News Center 7 that shows an SUV pulling up to her neighbor’s home, stopping and shooting at least 10 gunshots in the direction of the home before driving away.

News Center 7 spoke with her on camera, but she wanted to stay anonymous.

“Because it’s for the safety of my family and I have kids, grandkids. And there’s just a lot of activity going on a couple doors down,” one neighbor said.

She said the gunfire happened while most of the neighborhood was asleep.

“Our neighbor, who leaves very early in the morning, was heading out to his vehicle and realized there was gunshots, ten. He went and on his way to work, he texted his wife and said ‘hey, check the cameras,’” the neighbor said.

She added that the home in the security video has been the root of several violent situations on the street over the past five years.

News Center 7’s Taylor Robertson asked Dayton police if this is true, but they couldn’t confirm.

“Which is why we have cameras on our, on our houses and we’ve talked and we’re asking what can be done,” she said.

She said they called Dayton police to file a report.

“They were very polite, very courteous doing their duty, but when they came out, they just said that there’s really not a whole lot they can do,” the neighbor said.

She added that several neighbors want the violence to stop.

“We have children, we have animals, we have family. We will protect our own and each other, and that’s what I’m afraid it’s going to be. We’re going to end up shooting each other and taking care of business ourselves. And then we know that doesn’t end right,” she said.

The neighbor said she’s considering taking her concerns to the city commission.

It is unclear if anyone was injured in this incident or if police have any suspects.
