As reported on News Center 7 at 6, that’s what a Greene County business owner said she’s facing as tariffs for many countries kick in.
Cherish Harrell Brooks said this isn’t about politics, but her livelihood.
“I think anybody on either side, everybody should be concerned at this point,” Brooks said.
For the last eight years, the Secret Chamber House of Oddities and Artwork has been Brooks’ focus.

It has not been easy.
“Our customers are literally the only thing that’s gotten us through,” she said.
Brooks pointed out items she has recently bought from the United Kingdom.
“I thought the UK, I’ll make another big order from them, before everything gets too crazy, because they have a low percent,” she said.
Her nearly $690 order came in.
“I’ve already put it on my floor, and I’m selling items out of it, then I get this bill from UPS, and it’s my customs receipt, and the customs is over $1000 on a $600 order,” Brooks said.
She contacted the shipping company who told her the pieces used to make the items came from other countries.
Brooks was charged three different tariffs for the same statues.
“There’s almost no way to avoid it besides ordering here, but everything those people are making that are American-made, there’s going to be some part of that that they are going to be getting this from somewhere else,” she said.
She hopes by sharing this, both small businesses and people are aware of the charges they could receive for online orders.
