Trotwood officers converged on the home where someone took that caller’s car with an 18-month-old in a car seat in the back.
One of the officers who heard that broadcast was Fiver Rivers Metroparks Ranger Dustin Johnson.
His boss said he wasn’t even on the clock.
“He was out running an errand and on his way back home and he heard the AMBER Alert come out,” Mark Hess, MetroParks chief of public safety said.
Hess said Johnson was familiar with the area because he had worked for Trotwood police before becoming a Ranger.

He started checking neighborhoods close to the area.
At Windlow Drive and Churchland Avenue, he spotted the Chevy Cruze.
The little girl was alone and not hurt.
“He could hear the baby crying, he went and checked on the baby and she was still in the child car seat and seemed to be fine,” Hess said.
Hess said Johnson had been with MetroParks for about six months and just like his other sworn officers, it didn’t surprise him he went above and beyond the call of duty.
“It’s just not unusual for officers to do this, it’s really not. They really care. So this is something that when the opportunity presents itself, he was nearby, he did the right thing,” he said.
Hess said the child was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital to be checked out and then released to family.
