The caller said he and his girlfriend live in the duplex at this address, and they came back to get money.

He said his girlfriend went in through a side door that was left open, then he heard her asking if someone was inside the home. Moments later, there were gunshots.

“You think someone broke in?” the dispatcher asked.

“Yes,” the caller replied.

He said he drove away from the home and called for help as soon as he heard the gunshots.

“We don’t know where these people at,” he told dispatchers.

He wasn’t sure if his girlfriend made it out of the home.

The sergeant confirmed one person was hospitalized, but they are expected to survive.

“It’s worrisome, you know, this is a close-knit neighborhood. We look out for one another, and so hopefully they’ll be apprehended soon, and hopefully they won’t cause more problems,” Frederick Lyttle said.

Lyttle lives a street over from Geneva Road.

“Normally I take walks anyway at this time of night because I feel safe, so I was coming down the street, and I saw the police down here, and I said, well, let me see what’s going down here,” he said.

He added that police typically aren’t in his neighborhood.

“I’d say within the last 8 to 10 years in particular, this neighborhood, the worst thing that happened is kids fighting. No shootings, nothing like that,” Lyttle said.

He hopes this is an isolated situation and doesn’t become a trend.

“We’re just a nice neighborhood that we want everyone to come visit, feel safe. Thats the important thing, is feeling safe in this neighborhood,” Lyttle said.
