Tipp City Library director Lisa Santucci said they’re preparing to be hit with cuts.

“When you’re facing cuts that feel unknown, we’re sort of just in a holding position of preparing for the worst,” she said.

Santucci said they’ve already been forced to let one person go after federal cuts gutted library funding.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, the federal cuts are what the Trump Administration says is a focus on government efficiency.

Santucci said her eyes are on the state level to see what may come next.

“The House of Representatives presented a budget back in April that presented a $100 million cut to the Public Library Fund,” she explained.

The cuts were reduced to $90 million, but Santucci told News Center 7 that 70 percent of the library’s budget comes from the Public Library Fund.

“We have a small levy that provides us with some income,” she said. “And then we do have private donations of people that want to support us.”

News Center 7’s Mason Fletcher asked Santucci if the library could sustain with just the other 30 percent.

“Yes. I will always say yes to that,” she responded.

She did note that they almost cancelled their summer reading program, but secured funding on Tuesday. Other programs may not be so lucky.

“What we look like is undetermined because we don’t know exactly how much of that $90 million will impact us at our library independently,” she said.

Santucci showed News Center 7 letters written by people to her and state senators, asking them to keep funding the library.
