A Montgomery County Regional Dispatch supervisor said they received reports that a male was being stabbed in the area.
A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, told News Center 7 that they saw an argument between a man who lived at the complex and a non-resident who parked his vehicle there, later identified as Wells.
They also said they saw the resident damaging the van. They told him that he should stop, and that’s when the resident went inside and grabbed a butcher knife.
The owner of the van showed up and the two exchanged words.
“Somebody with a big butcher knife,” the witness said. “He never should have walked up on him, simple as that.’
As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, the witness said the resident stabbed Wells several times.
Wells later died at Miami Valley Hospital, according to the coroner’s office.
A Dayton Police incident report obtained by News Center 7 on Monday showed that the case was being investigated as a homicide.
The police report also showed that police arrested 62-year-old Anthony Perkins. Online jail records show Perkins is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of murder. No charges have been filed against him at this time.
The violence shocked the normally quiet Golden Villa apartments. One resident told News Center 7 that many people believe Wells may have been a squatter.
“He’s not a tenant,” one resident said. “He stays in the storage room, and some people stay in those woods over there.”
News Center 7 has reached out to Dayton Police for more information on the incident and the victim. We’ve not received a response at the time of this report.
