Work began at Hook and Cook Elementary Schools.

When they are finished, the new schools will be known as North and East Elementary Schools.

Troy City School superintendent Chris Piper told News Center 7’s Xavier Hershovitz that there will be some growing pains.

“It’s going to take about two years for those to be fully ready for us to occupy,” he said. “In the meantime, I’d like parents to know that our team is working hard to make sure the project goes smoothly, that it meets its budget requirements, and that those buildings are going to be great buildings for student learning for the next several generations.

Hershovitz says that the school district is also completely renovating Troy High School’s HVAC system.

It’s not ready to go this school year, and students will notice some changes. Ceiling tiles, floor tiles, and some older chalkboards have all been ripped out.

District leaders said work will start in the spring and continue through the spring.

“The high school looks a little rough,” said Piper. “It looks like a construction zone. Fortunately, we know that relationships and good teaching and learning is an important part. So, although the building may look a little rough, school is still going to happen. Kids are still going to learn. And, it’s just something we’ll have to get through.”
