DAYTON — Several firefighters responded to an underground vault fire in Downtown Dayton.

Dayton District Fire Chief Andrew Wiley said crews were called out on a possible structure fire near 34 W. Second Street shortly before 7:20 a.m.

When crews got to the scene, they found smoke coming from a vault outside of the building.
“When we find these, they’re typically just electrical. That’s what we found here,” Wiley said, adding there was no extension to the building.
No injuries were reported.
AES Ohio told News Center 7 that there was an equipment issue in the vault, leading to the fire. The fire has since been put out, and they’re now waiting to get clearance from the fire department to go in and make repairs.
An AES Ohio spokesperson said a follow-up investigation into the fire will be conducted.
Dayton Police & Fire shared on social media that Second Street was closed between Main and Ludlow streets while crews were on the scene.
